Lomography LomoChrome Turquoise 35 mm ISO 100-400 Film Sample Photos in Porto, Portugal!

(By using the links and/or codes below it supports Myles Katherine Photography. We may get a small kick back by you doing so.)

You guys know I love LomoChrome Purple film in both 35 mm and medium format), but in the past I had only tried the LomoChrome Turquoise in 120 format. I finally purchased a roll of 35 mm Turquoise film and took it with me to Portugal! I used my trusty Minolta Maxxum STsi (one of my favorite 35 mm travel cameras) and took photos on our all-day bus tour in the Douro Valley and all throughout Porto. I’m kind of obsessed with the results! I love any film that adds a surreal atmosphere to my images and this film definitely does that. Plus, the Minolta Maxxum STsi has a panorama setting, which is perfect for traveling and allows me to capture wide landscapes and unusual compositions. You can read more about that camera on my blog here!

As you’ll see in the sample photos below, skin tones typically show up as blue, which is super unique and strange. If you’re looking for a film to push you out of your comfort zone and create an alien world, this is it! I love the way it looks with architecture, particularly. It’s very moody and cinematic, with quite a bit of grain, especially with multiple exposures. It also seemed to do decently well in low light situations. I probably wouldn’t use this film for a typical wedding or portrait client, but I would definitely consider it for a musician or artist who are looking for stand-out portraits.

I still think I might like the LomoChrome purple film better, but it’s always fun to try something new. One of the reasons I love Lomography so much is because of their fearlessness when it comes to creating new and unique films. I haven’t really found anything out there on the market that resembles the LomoChrome Purple or Turquoise films. They are truly unique.

If you’re feeling bold and adventurous, here are a few of my favorite unique Lomography films! Make sure to scroll to the bottom of this post to see the rest of the images I took with the LomoChrome Turquoise film in Portugal!

TRAVELING IN ITALY WITH A CANON 5D MARK IV

It’s amazing how long it takes me to get around to posting photos sometimes, but I think the main problem is that I just take way too many photos with way too many cameras! I can’t help myself though! Today, I wanted to share all of my favorite digital photos that I took on my trip to Italy. Mostly because I feel like my digital photos never see the light of day. I always take my Canon 5D Mark IV with me on my big trips because I love it so much, but I mostly take photos with it as backups in case my film photos don’t turn out. But the photos are so beautiful and sharp and lovely to look at, so I decided they deserve their own blog post! You guys know I love the Canon 5D Mark IV, particularly with the Canon 24-70 mm f/2.8 L II lens. It’s the perfect combination for weddings and travel. You can read my full review of the 5D Mark IV here, or my review of the 24-70mm f/2.8 lens here!

The first part of our trip was spent in Tuscany for my sister’s wedding! We stayed at the Borgo Tre Rose (which was the most gorgeous hotel/wedding venue I’ve ever seen in my life)! We went truffle-hunting (you can book a tour here!) on our first night there and it was so incredibly magical. The houses and buildings in Tuscany are absolutely stunning. Every corner was picturesque and begging to be photographed. We watched a beautiful sunset over the farm as we followed the owners and their dogs through the woods, searching for truffles. We ended the evening with a delicious meal, prepared with the truffles that we found on our hunt! It was so memorable and definitely a great way to kick off our trip to Italy. We drank wine all night long, ignored our jetlag, and lived fully in the moment. It was the best.

We also visited Montepulciano, Pienza, Florence, Rome, and Vatican City. I always find that the trouble with traveling is that you can never actually cross anything off your list. Now that I’ve seen all of these places, I just want to go back and visit each and every one, plus all of the beautiful towns we saw on the way to each one! There’s just too many places to travel to in the world!

The good news is that going through these photos helps me to sort out my memories (and my hard drives!) and I always love reliving our travels. Italy is definitely one of those places that we absolutely have to go back to at some point. It’s just perfection. The scenery. The food. The wine. It’s incredible. There are dozens more photos from our trip at the end of this post, so make sure to scroll down!

Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope this post gives you an idea of what the Canon 5D Mark IV is capable of and why I love it so much. Especially when you use a zoom lens, there’s really no landscape, portrait, or lighting setting that you can’t capture. It’s an incredible camera, though it is a bit of a hassle to lug around when traveling. But it’s always always worth it in the end. There’s nothing worse than those moments in life when you ask yourself, why didn’t I bring my camera?!

Porto, Portugal 3 Hour Food & Wine Tour with Viator! Was it Worth it?

This post contains affiliate links and I will be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking through my links.

I usually try to book a few different tours when we travel to Europe, just to help fill in the gaps when I don’t feel like figuring everything out myself. Lately, I’ve been booking a lot of tours through Viator because they have so many options to choose from in practically every city around the world. Before our trip to Portugal, I booked the 3 Hour Food & Wine Tour in Porto to help introduce us to the culture and the cuisine on our first full day there. It sounded like a nice and easy walking tour around the city and a good introduction to the food and wine. Portugal is specifically known for Port (obviously!), so I was super excited to learn a little bit more about it. My husband is a whiskey aficionado and we love trying local spirits and liquors when we’re traveling. I also loved that the tour was only 3 hours long because I knew on our first day in Porto we’d be slow-moving. I planned a full-day excursion to the Douro Valley for a few days later once we were more settled and rested.

WAS IT WORTH IT?

Absolutely! The tour wasn’t super fast-paced or overwhelming in any way. We visited 4 different bar/restaurant locations throughout the city and our tour guide, Cristina, told us all about the history of Porto as she walked us to each destination. We walked through the famous marketplace, Mercado do Bolhão, and the beautiful train station, Sao Bento. She was extremely knowledgable and happy to answer any questions we had. The Portugese people are so incredibly kind and easygoing. We were actually visiting Portugal because we have been considering moving there! Porto was a bit of a bigger city than I was expecting, but that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. I had envisioned that Porto would be a sleepy boating town, but it wasn’t sleepy at all! While it did have that relaxed pace, there was so much to do and tons of restaurants, bars, parks and beautiful landmarks. It was a stunning city. Just be ready to walk up and down a LOT of hills. Portugal is known for it’s steep cities and we definitely came home feeling a lot stronger than when we left!

The tour is super affordable and we were given snacks and drinks at every location. We truly enjoyed getting to know a few other travelers too. Our group was about 12-15 people, which was nice because we didn’t feel like the attention was all on us. We were headed to Lisbon a few days later for the Taylor Swift Eras Tour, and 2 of the other couples in our tour group were doing the same thing! We all had tons to chat about. Not to mention, the weather was PERFECT. Another reason we’ve been considering moving to Portugal is because of the mild and beautiful weather. While it does rain quite a bit in Porto, it didn’t disrupt our trip too much. It was usually raining in the morning and would clear up by the early afternoon. Plus, I kind of enjoy the moodiness of a gentle rain while looking out onto a river filled with boats. As a photographer, I couldn’t ask for a more peaceful and calming scene!

I would definitely recommend this tour, especially towards the beginning of the trip. I think you might find it to be repetitive if you book it towards the end of your trip and have already been walking around Porto for a few days. I found it to be a perfect way to spend a few hours of our first day exploring the city. We were able to turn our brains off after the long plane ride across the Atlantic Ocean and just relax and enjoy a few drinks. It helped us get our bearings for the layout of Porto and our tour guide pointed out some major landmarks that kept our internal compasses working for the rest of our visit. Plus, you’ll find that a lot of the traditional Portugese restaurants serve the same styles of food, so after a few days of trying it out on your own and then taking a tour at the end of your trip, you might already be sick of eating codfish and pasteis de nata (though I never get sick of pastries)!

I posted a full video about our Food & Wine tour on my YouTube channel. You can check it out here!
